CHILDREN’S BOOK RELEASE
Sticks, Stones and Stumped!
Author Deb Landry is creating a buzz with children and their parents with her new children’s book, Sticks, Stones and Stumped! The book has already proven to be a valuable tool
for teachers and parents that address the important subject of bullying in an inspiring story of friendship, respect and communication. This charmingly illustrated story is inspired by a personal experience and
the recent movement to prevent bullying through state and federal legislation. This book centers on Billy Bob Opossum’s migration from Oklahoma to Maine. He and his new friends face
confusing emotions when Billy is teased and bullied because of his diverse habits. The animals are left trying to identify a variety of feeling surrounding the same incident. This is an enjoyable and sensitive story
about a growing problem facing our children daily. An amazing and delightful tale Sticks, Stones and Stumped!, weaves the bully, target, bystander and adult into a story celebrating positive social values.
The book is a first for the author, and holds an important and helpful message to teachers, parents and children dealing with bullying and harassment behaviors in our schools. The subject matter also makes it
the perfect tool for schools, youth programs, preschools, and others who deal with bullying and harassment of youth. The story, also in play form, is being performed throughout Maine in March due to a grant from the
Maine Community Foundation and premiered at the Reason for Hope Conference in Augusta last October. The book is beautifully illustrated by artist Melissa Pelletier who has illustrated several children
publications. Melissa captures the vulnerability and innocence of the animals. Her years as an artist are demonstrated in the tenderness seen in the characters. The Book Release Reception held at
Dyer Library, Main Street Saco ME, on March 14 at 6:30 pm was one of the largest in the libraries history. The author,
illustrator and editor were on hand to meet and greet, answer questions and autograph books. The book is now available to order at most fine book retailers as well as online. Fundraiser events were also held a The Penny Social at LorangerMiddle School on Friday, March 17 at 7 pm and at First Parish Congregational Church on Sunday, April at 11 am.
