Meet
the Author and School
Visit Information
Ms.
Landry is available for school visits by reservation.
We
encourage you to Invite the Author to your classroom or school. It’s
great when we read and discuss a book with the class, but can you imagine
the extra value and excitement of being able to discuss the book with its
author and with a subject so needed in our classroom? Encourage your children
to read while learning about the social values needed to make their
school a safe place to be.
Author
Deb Landry is available for book signings, workshops, readings and visits
to your school or organization. In a language which children can understand,
her exciting presentations include a challenging lesson of appropriate behaviors
surrounding bully prevention and respect for others. Through her story
of Maine animals, students learn that everyone is unique in their own way
and how special our individualities are. The story addresses behaviors
and relationships of the target, bystander, bully, teacher and parents. Understanding
positive social values and the acceptance of others is the core purpose of
this book. The presentations are clear, motivational and fun for children. Sticks
Stones and Stumped opens the door for interactive conversation for
children, parents and teachers. Focusing on the natural feelings of honestly
and communication, even when times are tough, help the children understand
the development of relationships with adults and peers.

Illustrated
children’s books are meant to entertain as well as educate. This SSS
workshop shows how students can brainstorm ideas, develop and plan their
own story, organize the order, edit their work and create basic illustrations.
This creative workshop help develop students interest in writing a fun and
easy story and increase awareness of the teachers role in editing their work.
We also include useful hints to assist young authors to develop the first
draft and shape it into the final product by using teamwork. The student
is the writer/illustrator, teacher is the editor. Students develop
a draft and learn how to compliment, or tell part of the story with pictures. After
participating in this workshop, a student will understand how much work,
time and commitment goes into writing and how rewarding it can be. They will
also understand the importance of working with peers and teachers to develop
the constructive process of brainstorming, drafting, building a character,
and critiquing. Reading the book is an option or this can be a follow up
visit.
You may choose a power point presentation or a more intimate
book reading in a circle.
With writer’s workshops, please read the book in advance.
